In much more pressing news:
NFL “star” Michael Vick, of the Atlanta Falcons, has been indicted by a federal grand jury on felony dogfighting charges. Vick is charged with violating federal laws against competitive dogfighting, procuring and training pit bulls for fighting, and conducting the enterprise across state lines.

In a raid conducted on April 25 and 26, local and state law enforcement officials found 70 dogs—including at least 60 pit bulls and many dogs who reportedly were neglected, scarred, and malnourished—on quarterback Vick’s rural Surry County, Virginia, property.

Some of the animals evidently bear scars and injuries, and paraphernalia commonly associated with dogfighting—including a “rape stand”—are also said to have been found on the property.

According to Vick’s indictment, even if the losing dogs survived, they met a cruel fate, “sometimes put to death by drowning, strangulation, hanging, gun shot, electrocution, or some other method.”

Please tell the NFL that someone who encourages this kind of neglect and abuse shouldn’t belong in its organization. Write to the NFL to ask that Vick be immediately suspended. There is a quick and easy form to send your message HERE.

Yeah, Michael Vick’s unbelievably evil to me. I simply can’t understand how it’s only a felony to do what he’s done.

They should tie that bastard to a fence, cover him in steak and honey and let a pack of starving dogs say ‘Thank You.’

Good luck on organizing your Euro tour. :)

Yeah, fuck this guy. Honestly, I don’t give a fuck about Michael Vick, or the NFL, but if we can make an example of this sports “hero”, it could have much more impact in overall US society than going after anonymous small-town dogfighters.

Hell, I’m not sure if making an example of him will actually have an effect or not; probably about as much as the “Please Don’t Drive Drunk” signs have on alcoholics.

Still, I think they should put him down like a bad horse or at least treat it as more than a silly misdemeanor. He killed and tortured animals. Dillweed!

You’re all fuckin’ diseased! Should he get off scott free? NO! Should he be jailed and have his career ruined over it..HELL NO! We’re talking about DOGS here poeple. There are folks that kill PEOPLE that don’t receive the punishment you want bestowed Michael Vick. I’d say hit’em where it hurts (in the pocket) with a nice hefty fine, and the indictment will put enough scare into him to let’em know don’t do this stupid bullshit again. But you fuckers are talking all this “evil” shit like he’s launched another holocaust, geeze! get a fucking clue.

swingin’7 - thanks for such a thoughtful and articulate contribution to the discussion. Three F-bombs in one neat paragraph - your Momma would be so proud.

I’ll fully admit that I like animals more than most people and it seems you’ve made it to the ‘most people’ list.

I find little weight to the ‘they’re just animals’ argument and I realize I’m a little wacky, but thank you for the reminder.

I say Vick and all who fight animals are possessed with greed, hate, and pride. Vick should lose all of his money, lose his career and sponsors, then spend the rest of his life in jail. The same goes for anyone who fights animals or has anything to do with animal fighting. They’re all evil!

I’ve been reading up on this, and there seems to be a lot of hysteria, on both sides…

Though it still baffles me that anyone could take the side of beating, strangulating or drowning a living thing for sport, I wanted to share this link to an article by Colbert King:

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/08/24/AR2007082401648.html

…it’s the most level-headed, non-reactionary article I’ve read so far.

Thanks everybody for your action. Mr. Vick has been suspended from the NFL, his big-biz endorsements cancelled. Thank you for speaking up for those who have no voice.
